Is this your dog's kind of park?

Often called the 'green lung' of Hong Kong, Penfold Park is a 20-acre grass-and-lake dog-friendly expanse tucked inside the Sha Tin Racecourse grounds. Three man-made lakes attract overwintering migratory waterbirds, picnic tables dot the lawn, and there's a small children's playground so families can stay together. Managed by the Hong Kong Jockey Club on non-race days, the park holds its place as the largest pet-friendly open space in the SAR and feels half-empty outside weekends.

Before you set off

Closed on Sha Tin race days and selected barrier-trial days — check the HKJC calendar the night before you go. Run free in the morning, then dog-paddle (or just watch the ducks) at the man-made lakes.

What you'll find there

  • Grassy lawn
  • Shaded trees
  • Seating
  • Picnic tables
  • Kids playground
  • Waste-bag station

What dog owners ask before visiting

What makes Penfold Park special for dogs?
Penfold Park is a privately managed green space in Sha Tin, famous for its camellia garden and wide lawns. It is one of the few Hong Kong parks where dogs can be walked on-leash throughout, making it ideal for dogs who don't do well in crowded pet gardens.
Can dogs go off-leash at Penfold Park?
Penfold Park is on-leash only — the entire park requires dogs to be on a leash. For off-leash options in Sha Tin, the Sha Tin Pet Garden at Wo Liu Kwong is the nearest fenced LCSD pet zone.
How do I get to Penfold Park from Sha Tin MTR?
Penfold Park is a 15-minute walk from Sha Tin MTR Station. Exit via the New Town Plaza side and follow the signs through the parkland. Alternatively, take bus route 48P or 848 and alight at the Penfold Park stop.
