Missed the AFCD Dog Adoption Carnival? Get ready for the next one
The 2026 Cyberport carnival drew 4,800 visitors. Check the dog-entry rules, what to bring and where AFCD will announce the next date.

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) runs a public Dog Adoption Carnival under the banner Let’s Go! The Pet Owners’ Journey — one of the few large dog events backed directly by the government licensing authority.
The 2026 edition was held 17–18 January 2026, 11:00am–6:00pm at Cyberport Arcade, with free admission. Over 4,800 visitors attended across two days (AFCD post-event figures). The next edition’s dates are not on the homepage yet — use this post as the playbook so you are ready when AFCD announces it again.
Adoption is only part of the day
From the official AFCD announcement and pets.gov.hk carnival page:
- Meet dogs available for adoption via partner animal welfare organisations
- On-site dog licensing (apply or renew)
- Vet consultation booths
- Dog playground, game booths, education displays
- Workshops and NGO sharing sessions
2026 partner NGOs included (among others): Cheung Chau Animal Care, HK Saving Cat and Dog Association, LAP, Paws United, Society for Abandoned Animals, SPCA, and Team for Animals in Lantau South.
Bringing your own dog? Four things are non-negotiable
AFCD is explicit: dogs brought by the public must have:
- A valid dog licence (unless you are licensing on the spot)
- Rabies vaccination
- Microchip
- Proper control (lead / secure handling)
This is stricter than a casual pet market. Bring your e-licence screenshot and do not arrive with an unlicensed dog expecting a free pass.
Thinking about adopting? Do the quiet work first
- Research partner NGOs before the weekend — carnival days are noisy; hard decisions are easier with homework done.
- Ask about home checks, deposits, and post-adoption support at each booth.
- Bring all household decision-makers if possible.
- Budget for first-week kit: crate, lead, food transition, first vet visit.
- If you only want to licence or learn, say so early — staff time is limited.
Make the Cyberport trip worth it
The 2026 carnival used Cyberport mall / arcade space with waterfront park nearby. Useful pairing if you finish early:
